Bear Creek Overlook Hike

This hike was highly recommended so we decided to try it. When we started out on the hike we noticed some people who had arrived with buckets. Hmmm... Then as we started our hike we saw these little bushes and realized they were huckleberry bushes. Lots and lots of them! We decided we would go on our hike first and then pick us some huckleberries on the way back down.
On our way up we ran into some wildlife. No, it wasn't a bear. It was a mama Grouse(we think?) and her baby. They were surprisingly not very skiddish. Can you see the cute baby?

And if you know Jared, we had to have a dead tree to push over. Gage really likes this tradition his dad has.

The hike was longer than we thought and some murmuring was going on. There were no signs when we started the hike and so I started wondering if we were on the right trail. But then we got a glimpse of what we were about to behold.

It took our breath away. This overlook was amazing. The drop off was terrifying. Jared and I suddenly became very very cautious or maybe I should say paranoid and would not let Gage be anywhere near the edge without a death grip hold on him. This picture I made him sit.

Gage wanted to throw rocks over the edge and was getting very frustrated with his parents for holding onto him so tightly. Can you see the rock that Gage threw?

This area reminds me of Glacier. Our camera can't do justice to how amazing this view was.

We found this funky tree growing out of the rocks and had to get a picture. It looked like it was going to reach out and grab you. Then Jared and Gage are showing off their "I'm king of the world" look.
We did stop on the way down and pick huckleberries. For those of you who don't know, you can pick forever and still not have a very substantial amount. They are smaller than blueberries and grow individually, not in bunches. We were able to pick enough to make huckleberry milkshakes though. YUM!

While I was painting the bathroom ceiling this weekend you were picking huckleberries and seeing awesome views?! My weekend just got even lamer.

p.s. Isn't Jared such a push over? ;)

That's what I forgot... I gotta go push over a tree.

Yum! Huckleberries.
I used to like overlooks, but now that I have kids they are simply too scary for words. So I understand the need for a death grip on Gage.

I totally understand the caution. I'd be scared for my kids and me too. The pictures are beautiful. I'm glad you shared because I couldn't go there.
